It has been 30 anniversary after the original Toy Story movie debuted, establishing the animation giant as a leading animation studio and bringing viewers to beloved figures like the cowboy doll (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (the voice talent), who are now household names.

Coming in 2026, the next chapter is set to arrive. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed this week, offering a glimpse into the plot but keeping fans wondering how it will address the conclusion of Toy Story 4.

Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Frightens the Toys

The preview reveals the young girl — who inherited Andy's toys when he left for college — receiving a latest plaything, one that alarms the familiar toy group. Bonnie acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is excited about it.

Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the characters seem to view it as a danger intending to supplant them, which it likely will.

Woody's Return: Mysteries from Toy Story 4

One thing the teaser doesn't touch on is what Woody is back with his friends in Bonnie's room. The end of Toy Story 4 depicted him set off on a new adventure with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), journeying with a fair and assisting giveaway items locate loving owners.

Surely, Pixar will explain the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Witnessing him show up in the familiar setting without warning is somewhat puzzling, though. It also makes us wonder whether his partner will have come back with him. And where is Duke Caboom (the star)?

Connections from the Last Installment

At the very least, some aspects are continuing from the earlier movie. The last thing the cowboy did before setting off for his fresh path was hand over his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (the voice actor), entrusting her as the leader of the toy domain. In the teaser displays the badge pinned to her shirt.

It is hoped she is still the driving force among the toys.

Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on the scheduled date.
